How to Make a Payment by Phone — Step by Step

All you need is your phone. Call (866) 534-6535 and follow these 7 simple steps:

Step 1: Call and Select Your Language

Dial (866) 534-6535. When prompted, press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish. Stay on the line to access the improved automated payment system.

Step 2: Enter the Last 6 Digits of Your SSN

This is the first verification step. Use your keypad to enter the last 6 digits of your Social Security Number.

Step 3: Enter Your 5-Digit ZIP Code

Enter the ZIP code linked to your account to complete identity verification.

Step 4: Review Your Account Details

The system will read out your current balance, minimum payment amount, and due date. Listen carefully before proceeding. Press 1 to set up a payment, press 2 to listen again to your account information, or press 3 to connect to an agent.

Step 5: Choose to Make a Payment

Press 1 to schedule the payment for the full amount. Press 2 to schedule it for the minimum due (extension fee only). To pay more than the minimum, press 3.

Step 6: Enter Your Payment Amount

To enter a partial payment amount, type in the amount you want to pay using your keypad—for example, 200 for a $200 payment. If you want to enter an amount with cents, enter the star key before entering the cents. For example, if you want to pay $150.50, enter 150*50, followed by the pound sign.

Step 7: Confirm and You’re Done

Press 1 to confirm. The system will announce your payment has been submitted successfully—no further action needed!

✅ Payment Confirmed Instantly — Once you confirm, the system notifies you that your payment has been scheduled correctly. The amount is debited from your payment method previously saved in your account.

Good to Know Before You Call

💡 Your saved payment method is used automatically. The phone system does not accept new card numbers. Make sure your payment method is up to date in your MPD account before calling.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Have the last 6 digits of your SSN and your ZIP code ready before you call.
  • The system is fully automated—no agent is needed for standard payments.
  • Partial payments are supported—choose the amount you prefer.
  • Payments are processed using the card or bank account saved in your account.
  • You will receive a confirmation message at the end of the call. Additionally, you will receive an email confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this feature if I don’t have the credentials to log into my MPD account?

Yes—you can call the number and make payments. However, a saved payment method is required. If you would like to change it, it must be done through one of our Customer Service Agents.

What if I enter the wrong information?

The system will prompt you to try again. If you experience repeated issues, contact our support team at (866) 534-6535 during business hours.

How does the “more than the minimum” option work?

If you select this option, it allows you to extend your loan until your next due date, but the amount over the minimum due will be applied towards your principal amount, which will reduce your balance. This is the best option if you cannot pay your loan off in a single payment.

Will I receive a receipt or confirmation email?

The IVR system confirms your payment verbally during the call. You will also receive confirmation by email.
